New Costume

Sheep doesn't work. So I'm changing it! You'll have to wait and see on Monday to find out what I'm going to be! =D

Night!

SCHOLARSHIP!!! and TFA Application (expedited)! And school.

"Money, money, money, must be funny, it's a rich man's world!" ~ ABBA

So I found out that I will be receiving a scholarship! My case was presented to the board of scholarships last Friday, and they decided that I perfect for it! Woot!  The scholarship covers $500 bucks per term, which along with the other amount of aid I have, leaves me to pay $8 dollars. Okay!
I also received an email from TFA asking me to reapply through the expedited process since I was on the waitslist last year! Now mind you, I had just submitted a normal application two days prior! Well, the expedited process is a lot better, (it's kinda like priority, although not) so I am going to do that instead. I'll find out January 2nd if I am accepted, and hopefully on January 17th where I will be placed! I really want to do this so badly!!! Especially if it is in special education! *I'll be biting my nails until then*
Oh, and I finished that stupid, stupid, stupid math applications course that I finished 3 weeks ago, (It took me a whopping 1 day to do) but forgot to label the quadrants on one graph, so it got kicked back over and over and over. Good bye and good riddance! Onto the next class! In 2 months, I've completed 19 (soon to be 20) units! Go me, go me! Yeah, it's been hard!

New Shoes: Workout!

I finally went to Payless last night to get a pair of tennis shoes. My old ones hurt because my feet supinate too much. That means my feet roll outwards and I step more on the outside/pinkytoe part of my foot than the normal part of my foot. The shoes suck, because I got them during that recent "fitness shoe" craze where the shoes had rounded bottoms for "slight instability, that will strengthen your muscles and make your ass look great!" yeah, right. I didn't buy that then, and I certainly don't buy it now.  Any way because of the slight instability, the shoes already rolled when I first got them, combine that with my supination, and seriously there is an 1.5 inch height discrepancy between the inside side of my shoes and the outside side. I'm basically walking on the sides of my feet.  Boo.

Anyway.... I got new shoes, and they are very light! I was finally able to get in a workout this morning and I feel great! Yippee! =D

And runnin runnin, and runnin runnin...

Molly Doggy

Today was a slow "good news" day. Really about the only thing notable was being able to brag about my dog this afternoon and how wonderful she is! I love Miss Molly!
I guess finally being enrolled in my special education course is good too.

Life.

Oy, so things aren't quite going the way I envisioned them, like normal lol. Anyway here is the good in all of this: I had a wonderful Saturday with my ladies in Apple Hill! We did all sort of stuff, I got delicious fudge and I picked my very own apples! And boy were they GOOD! I have never tasted such a fresh, yummy apple! I swear, it had a honey aftertaste! In other news, financial (lack of) aid has turned my life upside down again. I do not even have enough money to pay tuition. We applied for a PLUS Direct Loan, which was denied, so hopefully they will give me a little more to at least cover tuition. Oh and I qualify for a scholarship worth $500. Let's hope the selection committee likes me! Because of this mess, I have applied to Teach For America (again). As you may know, I was admitted last year, but was placed on the waiting list for placement. With the erosion of teacher positions, I was unable to do TFA. (But that might be a good thing, considering my health issue that happened). So, no I've applied at an earlier deadline and I hope to be admitted and teaching special education next year. If not, I'll start looking for teaching jobs. If I get one, I will shift to a Masters in Special Education at WGU. If I don't get one, I will continue with my bachelors in Special Education at WGU.
Oh, and on a side note, I finally decided what I want to be for Halloween. I'm going to be a Counting sheep! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! =D
Oh, and I asked my Principal if she would be one of my references... she said yes!

School, Musical, and More School!

Let's see over the past week I've received our musical music for choir!!! Woot! And the kids have learned 1.5 songs (I'd say two, but honestly that ending needs work!) I've submitted and passed three tasks in my two assessment courses, and hopefully, I will finish those today and be DONE!!! Also, I only have to take the objective assessment (final exam) for my science course and then I'm golden! I should be fine, I passes the pre-assessment with flying colors! =D Well, I best get back to work then! Adios! Oh, and I received my school id card, and I passed my PCE 1 Application which means, I get to apply for PCE 2 and start in-classroom stuff! Yippee!

Mom's home!

Also, today has been a pretty great day!  It was really refreshing to get out of the house, and be able to work and relax! It was nice, the kids were great. =D

I am starting to make changes in my life, I am excited and nervous.

Choir is going well. The kids have learned the choreo and music for the opening number! They are so excited about the musical and have so many creative ideas! Yey!!! Oh, and the music just shipped! Yippee!

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Well, bad news came with a silver lining yesterday. Although my mom is in the hospital, and will be there for a few more days, I did get in some quality time with my family. Not exactly how I had pictured it, but hey, at least we were together. I just hope we don't have to go to the hospital every time we want to have family time!

I was able to do a 25 minute workout!  Which is a lot for me. Since the surgery and stuff, I seem to be unable to control my arms and legs! It's quite odd. I feel like I'm 13 again, when I wasn't in control of my own body. I'm trying different dance routines as workouts, and I'll see my arms flapping around, and I'm like, " How the hell did they get there?" I know that soon I'll be back in control of them. But for now, I'll just dance my heart out! Well, kinda, I have to be careful that I don't hurt myself! I only stopped at 25 mins because my knees started to hurt. I can't wait to not be sick! I can't do Bye Bye Birdie with DMTC, simply because I don't have the gas money to go back and forth to Davis all the time. But as soon as I get my financial aid, I'm moving back to Davis! And I'm looking forward to doing Chicago! with them!

My future character shoes!   =D

8/14/11 Swimming/ Musical

So yesterday I needed a break from the claustrophobia of school preparations and cleaning/packing my room. So I decided to put together the Winter Concert for choir this year. Well, I knew it had to be WINTER themed. No holidays whatsoever because holidays and school don't (and shouldn't) mix. Some parents do get upset that their child would be celebrating a holiday that they at home to not celebrate. Even in a secular fashion. So I set to work scoping out songs, publishers, and prices. Unfortunately, we don't have a pianist, so I have to buy the performance cd with the music. Each one is about $30. As you can imagine, this eats up my budget! Thankfully, I happened upon the J.W. Pepper website (I've sung their music before) and stumbled upon their mini-musicals for kids. BINGO! So after perusing the website and finding adorable little musicals I paired my list down to two of my favorites. 1) The Big Chill, and 2) Crazy Carols.  Crazy Carols takes well know carols and gives them school-setting lyrics: "Still, Still, Still, Why Can't You Just Sit Still," (Still, Still, Still), "Our Good Principal" (Good Kind Wenceslas), "The First Snowfall" (The First Noel), "They Test You Merry Gentlemen," (God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen). They lyrics are hilarious. But, it does use the tune of traditional carols, and seems sort of easy for 3-6th graders. So, I decided to go with #1 The Big Chill. Which is a cute musical about both the students and teachers/staff wishing for a snow day, and how they both discover that they want the same thing and that they are alike. It's cute and makes you want to dance in your seat. Plus the price is right and has no religious undertones! (So no upset parents, especially at the school that I would like to work at permanently!) If you want to know more about the musical, you'll just have to go to the concert. Or, you can go here: http://www.jwpepper.com/3300814.item

Also, I got my friend to go swimming and "workout" with me in the pool last night. The "workout" didn't really work-out, but we had a lot of fun. =D

8/13/11 Friends, food, and beer. lol

I went over to my friend Erika's apartment tonight and had a most delicious, yummy dinner. Sausages and green beans, potatoes with garlic and onions, and juuuuuuicy watermelon. Mmmmmmmmm! Oh, and I had half a beer. he he he! That's something I just don't seem to have -ever- these days. And for good reason too. I'm still recently off surgery.  Well, I'm off to bed now. Night night!

8/12/11 Workout and Milton

Today was good for two reasons: 1) I got to do a pool workout, which helps to keep my joint pain under control. The weight of the pool water helps to squeeze out the fluid in my joints. And it will help me get fitter. 2) I finally got to start reading Milton's Paradise Lost.  Yes, I am aware of my English-Major geekiness right now, but I think that the composition of the work, its allegory, extended metaphors and intricate/poetic descriptions are beautiful. Plus, I find the whole "other side of the story" vibe, alluring and intriguing. You go through so many emotions. Lucifer is kind of like the Phantom from Phantom of the Opera. At first you feel sorry for the dude, and then you realize just how far gone the dude is. His screwed up logic almost makes sense. Key word ALMOST! Satan's f*cked up crazy. lol.

8/11/11...and continue....

Transcript drama continues. But unlike all the other drama in my life...I like this drama! After waiting for two months to get started with this process (stupid college board jerks) I love that the emails are flying and things are actually happening! So I noticed that there were some courses that I felt I should receive transfer credit for, although, I didn't get credit. Sooooo..... I put together a spreadsheet with the courses I felt I should receive credit for, which requirement they would complete, a course description, and notes on why I feel I may be eligible for transfer credit. Hopefully, I will get credit for these courses, it would be great to knock them off the list. According to WGU I still needed to take a course like zoology. Um, I already took Animal Science and Entomology. Those should count and pass the requirement. Also, even though I was an English major, I somehow hadn't transferred over the Language and Communication: Presentation requirement. Wha...wha...wha...what??? So I went searching through my transcript and remembered that I took multiple DHC seminars. These definitely had presentation as a major component. We had to research, find potential solutions and the prepare for convocation. Then, we had to actually present at convocation. I think I should defo get credit for the presentation skills... DHC had a lot of presentation!

Hopefully I'll get credit for those courses!

8/10/11 The Transcripts Continue!

So when I got my transcript evaluation, they had said that they would need a syllabus from Edu 120. So I set it to them. Then, they said that they had made a mistake, it was actually EDU 110 that they needed the syllabus from. Okay! So I sent that one to them. It would be great to take that course off the list! Other than that, it's GHOST HUNTERS night! Woot Woot!

8/9/11 Transcript Evaluation

Whoo hoo! My transcript evaluation from WGU finally came! I was so excited. I then proceeded to look up all the courses that my program had and went course by course seeing which I still had to do. It ended up being 26 courses. Although, some of those course are observations from my mentor, so they don't really count as courses. So yeah! Also, some of the courses I have already take during the UC Davis Credential Program. Also, there are some courses that I have to take for my Special Education Credential that I also have to take for my Multiple Subjects Credential. Soooo if I take those courses before spring, they might transfer over to the UCD credential. Yeah! Less courses in Spring!

08/08/2011 Doggie Alarm Clock and Waffles!

My alarm clock this morning was my doggie Molly jumping up on my bed and laying down on my legs! So cute!

WAFFLES! YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY WAFFLES! Can you tell what I had for breakfast? Lol. If you guessed waffles, you're correct! My mom has a belgian waffle maker that my dad and she received as a wedding present all those years ago. It (amazingly) still works wonderfully! Yum! I made waffles and then cleaned up the entire kitchen--which was a
great surprise when she got home!

(This is what Molly thinks of Waffles, she prefers kibble instead)

waffles. =D MMMMMMMMM!

08/07/2011 Wedding Planning

So I planned my wedding this weekend. And in case you're wondering, no, I'm not engaged! I decided to change from the slightly over-done yet gorgeous red and gold color scheme, to a soft pink and antique gold color scheme. I still am keeping the love bird theme. Everything in my head and on my inspiration board is gorgeous. One of my favorite things is the picture wall. A new trend in wedding pictures is to have the guests take fun pictures as keepsakes of the wedding for the bride and groom. Photo booths are popular, as well are props and fun poses. What I've seen in a couple of weddings is a small hanging wall that's decorated in the weddings colors and has lots of ornate picture frames on it. Most of these frames have pictures of the couple together, but there are a few medium and large sized frames that are cut outs. The guests look through these and take a picture for a fun and unique wedding memory.

Also, it was my mom's official birthday! Congrats!

8/6/11 Happy Birthday Mom, Happy Anniversary Bro!

Last night I came over to my Mom's house for her birthday weekend! We had amazing tri tip and German chocolate cake! mmmmmm! I decorated the table in the purple and white vineyard print that my mom had and added some purple and white flowers in a vase. She loved the present I gave her: a "stained glass" flower that doubled as a pen! =D

My brother also celebrated his 8 month anniversary with his girlfriend. =D They are so cute together!

I've been doing wedding research and have changed my palette to a soft pink/peach/soft gold color scheme. If only I was actually getting married! lol!

8/5/2011 I iz a Penguin!

So today was "Halloween Day" at work. I had originally wanted to be the Wicked Witch of the West, but I couldn't find my Wicked hat. Then I decided to be a princess. Well, I was changing at camp and I thought: " Well, I've always called this my penguin dress, so that's what I'll be!" My old choir dress from high school is black and white. It looks like the under dress is white with a long black floor length jacket over the top. It's very penguinish and the female version of a tuxedo! I added orange "feet" and a "beak" and had myself a VERY CUTE penguin costume! =D I know what I'm gonna be for Halloween! I also added a cute little tap dance a la happy feet!

Also, one of the parents today told me that back on Monday her daughter came home and said that she was really happy that the regular sculpture teacher was sick, because I got to teach her this week! lol!

=D

TRANSCRIPTS!

My transcripts from The College Board FINALLY arrived at Western Governors University! This means that I can finally start school next month!!! Woot woot! It's only taken 2 months and countless phone calls and annoyances. They have the worst customer service I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Horrid. But, they are there! So excited!

Day whatever-August 3rd. 2011

I am SUPER EXCITED for my last day without a diagnosis!!!! Hopefully this means that tomorrow I can start medicines tomorrow!

July updates!

Well, well, well...it's been a while since I've last posted. I've been in a serious depression funk and that's impeded my posting. Since I've been in tremendous pain for months, I think depression is understandable. Here are some of the highlights from the last month: *Dressing up as Marie from the Aristocats for "Disney Day" at camp. *Having an old-fashioned slumber party with my friends. We did makeovers and painted our nails. And then we went to the Drive-In Movie Theater. We got there at the same time as everyone else did and it took 40 mins  to actually get into the movie area. But since they broadcast over the radio, we listened to our movie, Cowboys and Aliens, and acted it out as we listened. Lol! The movie was good, but had a lot of plot and less action than we were expecting. The double feature also had the Green Lantern playing...we all fell asleep. Not exactly the best movie ever... *Steak-yummy at my Mom's house, yummy at my house. * Finally getting in to see the Rhuematologist. I had 15 x-rays, 15 vials of blood drawn, and 28 tests done. *Seeing my family at a double birthday party and finally getting back at the a**hole that thinks he's better than everyone, and that my generation and I suck. * The next day seeing my cousin on the news for helping save a fawn that had been entrapped in their pool. * Talking to Julia, and her being my Angel! THANK YOU!!!! * Visiting my bro at Rock n Water, and witnessing the most awesome sandal tan ever! Oh and finding Gold in the river. *For Harry Potter day at work- I dressed up kinda, and turned my walker into a Nimbus 2011 seated edition. I put a broom and the label onto the back of my walker. *Having a BBQ and going swimming with friends. *Found/finished my stained glass! Over a year of work on that thing and I love it! *Having the best campers in the world: they may drive me crazy, but they are a lot of fun! *Instead of doing the normal July 4th things (I was in too much pain to do anything or go anywhere) Mom and I watched the fireworks spectaculars on tv and saw over 40,000 of them go off over the Potomac. * Relaxing and watching Brad Paisley music videos. *Going swimming at my Aunt Sharon's house and getting to see and play with her puppies.

Whew that was a lot of highlights.

TTYL!

Day 13: June 26th

OMG I'm actually posting on the correct day! So the high note for today was watching the pride parade! Happy Pride everyone! It's a short post today. I'm exhausted and in pain.

Day 12: June 25th Yummy party!

Today after getting out of the ER, I went to my friends' house for their lunch party! It was delicious!!!! We had chilled cantaloupe soup, cranberry walnut and feta salad, grilled chicken and cheese lasagna, and watermelon! YUM! We also played the "Game of Life." It really was fun! Although they did kick me out so that I would go home and sleep, since I hadn't slept at all the night before (stupid ER).

Thank you ladies! IT WAS SOOOOOOOOO GOOD!

Day 11: June 24th ER Antics

So I have spent the whole day spent in the Doctors/ER at Sacramento General Hospital. And I mean all day. My doc had called me at 12 and rushed me to Urgent Care at 1. The docs looked me over and sent me to the ER because they couldn't do anything more for me. So off to the ER I went. Mom drove and we got there at 4:30pm. I waited in the waiting room till 1:30am. Then I had an exam and more tests and the lab screwed up one of them. Finally by 10:30am we got the final test result and I was discharged.  I was so happy to get out of there!

Even in the midst of pain and exhaustion, there were a few highlights. My favorite was when the cute seven year old waiting in the ER for his baby sister to get treated, went to the restroom. The restrooms are located in the waiting room. Now in them, there is a cord that if you pull, a nurse will come help you. It's meant as an emergency type thing. Well, being a seven year old boy, tired and wound up at the same time. He went to the bathroom. Well, next thing I know, the security guard is telling the boy's father that the light outside the bathroom is flashing. The kid had pulled the cord out of curiosity and had no idea the entire waiting room could see the light flashing. Precious! Anyway, the dad went in and canceled the light and the boy came out with one of those "Am I in trouble for this?" look. So cute!

Day 10: June 23, 2011 Vicodin is good!

By now I hope that you've all realized that I tend to post after that specific day. I want to include my whole day before serving up the high point. So sometimes, posts may be in present tense, sometimes in past tense. Sorry, it's just how I remember them as I type.

Anyways, yesterday was a PAINFUL day! I could barely move I was in so much pain. I could feel every joint in my body and they were all screaming at me. I was crying it hurt so bad. By they late evening, I had been on the couch, under covers and writhing all day. My friends came over and we had taco night! Apparently it was pretty awesome, although I was in so much pain that I can't remember much. Eventually, I took some of my Vicodin. I can see why people become addicted to it. Not only did it take away my pain, it made me feel happy! I was able to drift off to sleep without problems from aching joints and I had one of the most peaceful night's sleep of my life. So highlight of my day was definitely the Vicodin!

Day 9: June 22, 2011 Trying to Stay Positive

A lot of bad things have happened recently: hospital, almost dying in said hospital, both Brutus Rattie dying from a stroke and Smudgie Rattie from cancer, getting really sick and being in a ton of pain which has resulted in tests for Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis, a test to see if my thyroid is out of whack because I can't control my body temp, throwing up a lot, etc. Overall, it's been hard to stay positive over the last few weeks. Yesterday was really hard but there was some positives. I got to hang out and go swimming with my friends! I love hanging out with all of them, they help keep my head off the bad stuff and make me feel loved and supported, like a good bra! Shout out to my bra friends!

Day 8: June 21, 2011 Work, Crafts, and Kittens. Oh My!

Today was much like yesterday. I was able to work for 8.5 hours! I subbed in Wood Working, and cleaned/organized the office. The office was a serious mess. We had over a hundred feet of sheet cork, some of which was lying on the ground, some of which was in a box standing up. Either way it was completely taking over the office and was blocking it so badly that I couldn't even turn the office chair around or open the cabinets. Yeah. So I chopped the cork into large squares, found homes for all the supplies, labeled everything etc. Also, I got to play lead counselor one last time! The 1-3 grades in extended care came to the craft center today. But there was nothing planned for them to do. Luckily, in my many years of experience I was able to pull two crafts out of thin air. First I had them do oil pastel drawings, the second they made cork boards from the cork I had just cut up. When they left I watched as they paraded by and their cork boards were extraordinarily cute! By the end of the day I was sick-exhausted and I wasn't able to go to see X-men with my friends as planned. But after some food, water, and a nap I was feeling a lot better and I was able to hang out with my friend Erika. She was just accepted into the same teacher preparation program as I am in, so we will have classes together and graduate together! She also is fostering very adorable young kittens  who are soooooo playful. It is so cute when they wrestle and stuff! Meow!

Day 7: June 20, 2011 Sawdust and Campers

Today I was able to work as a substitute in the Wood Working Camp. I've never done Wood Working but it was a lot of fun. We have great kids and their projects are looking great! After the morning camp I helped out in the lodge, cleaning, organizing, and inventory-ing. Yeah Money!

Day 6: June 19, 2011 Miss USA!

Dear the-rest-of-the-country,

WE WON!!! CALIFORNIA WON!!!! Four years we've been in the top five, and have been the runner up for what seems like forever! It was so awesome to see Miss California actually win! I loved her hair color (that's the color I wish I had) and I liked her dress (except for the sculptural element in the skirt). Props go to Miss Tennessee, she was excellent competition and the contestant I thought would win--besides Cali of course. I watched the pageant with my friends and we constantly commented and judged the contestants ourselves. Btw Trump... those swimsuits you choose were pretty awful.

YEAY MISS CALIFORNIA!

Day 5: 6/18/2011 Being Productive

Well it's been a while since I posted! Gasp! I've been exhausted! Which is quite ironic considering the title of this post, "Being Productive." Yet I swear I was... I vacuumed, cleared the table, put away the dishes, cleaned up a portion of my room, did the counters, organized all my medicines, took out the recycling and the trash, and picked up the common areas. All this was absolutely exhausting, as I am still healing and regaining my strength from my 5 week hospital stay. It felt really awesome to get everything done, have a nice healthy lunch and then chill for a while. It was a good day!

Day 4: Passing the Tests!

Today I took and passed three of my admissions tests! I still need to take and pass the fourth one. That should be easy as it is a small essay, and I was an English Major. Yeah, I got it covered. I passed the math, reading comprehension, and complete readiness assessment. Woot woot! And I went swimming with my friends in a freezing pool! It was really fun but cold! When I dove in my splash got our "I just want to read a book" friend wet. Let's see we did the hokey pokey, Marco-Polo, and ride alongs. After swimming, we had delicious strawberry shortcake! My friends made the cake part. Fresh sweet biscuits.... mmmmmm! We had fresh local  strawberries and together they were heaven! YUMMMMMM!

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Day 3: Water for Elephants!

Today was pretty awesome. I finally got all my transcripts off to my new university and I saw Water for Elephants with my friends. The film was amazing! Wonderfully done and acted, I was almost able to forgive Robert Pattinson for his horrible Twilight acting. It was beautiful, and an emotional roller coaster. You have to see this movie! Afterwards we had yummy Jack in the Box and played Apples to Apples. At the end of the game we see which adjectives we have and apply them to ourselves. Apparently I am: masculine, naive, nasty, and five other "charming" adjectives that I don't remember at this point.

Day 2: It's hard to be positive...

When a pet needs to be put down, it's really difficult to be positive. But I am going to try. Monday night was a private party for the food service workers and their +1s at school. It was held in the games area and everything was free. We stuffed ourselves on pizza, bowled 2 different but simultaneous games of bowling (both of which I won, because my friends bowled for me! lol), arcade games and billiards. It really was fun and relaxing! We didn't play competitively, everyone took turns playing for each other and just having a fun time. I even saw a snowy white owl!

Monday, June 13, 2011

Mmmmmmm! Yummy!

So to start off the blog, my first high note is dedicated to my brother who graduated from high school this year! We had a graduation party for him and his friend. I enjoyed the party and the food was nom nom nom-a-licious! Also, my mom made strawberries and blueberries for dessert. Well, obviously, she didn't make them.... but she put them together and it was delicious! I ended up having them on blackberry/pomegranate yogurt. Mmmmmmm! Yummy!

My Theme Song... "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" from Monty Python's The Life of Brian!

Enjoy!

Hello All!

Welcome to End On A High Note!

This blog is dedicated to finding the good in every day. For the next year, I will post daily, (cross fingers), about one thing that made that day great. This experiment helps me look on the positive side, even though life is the equivalent of 20 grit sandpaper--ROUGH! I hope you find this blog as inspiring as I do, and that maybe, just maybe, it will help you end each day on a high note!

~ Ta ta for now!
